Community Projects

Community Projects

The DJ School is the only organisation in the midlands area that provides DJ and music activities for hard to reach young people in the UK. All our tutors have a vast amount of experience working with and teaching young people. We have worked with leading organisations such as Connexions, Fairplay, Coalfields Regeneration Trust and the Derbyshire County Council.

Young People

We reach a broad cross section of young people, spanning secondary school pupils to youth who are unlikely to be engaged in education, employment or training. Our non-formal learning courses are a fantastic vehicle to get young people back into a learning environment, away from destructive influences. As well as participation on the courses, The DJ School offers young people progression routes in the form of work placements and links to industry employers.

We are currently working with local authority arts and youth services to create long-term strategic partnerships which provide whole boroughs with exciting streams of activities for young people including music and arts projects. The DJ School is supported by organisations such as Connexions, the Arts Council and the Derbyshire County Council.

We run a wide range of different activities for young people in the community. As one of the most flexible creative training organisations in the UK we can provide everything from just a few taster workshops to 3-year long programmes and everything in between.

We can also help you out with any 'fun days' you may be holding.

Flexible Delivery

Hornscroft Park Gala

We work with you to create carefully tailored projects which incorporate our courses but can be theme-driven or based around a particular outcome.

We can deliver after-school workshops, term-time programmes, holiday residentials... whatever is going to work for you. We have a wide pool of the very best tutors and flight-cased equipment ready to go, so in terms of resource and flexibility, we can always accommodate your needs.

Our Objectives

We are currently working on short programmes and creative workshops to deliver music focused training. Working with different funding companies across the UK our projects will work to deliver the following objectives:

  • Deliver training and skills to disaffected youth (NEET).
  • Develop skills in the long term unemployed, lone parents and those on incapacity benefits to help them move along the road to employment.
  • Support people struggling with health equalities through programs of learning that can provide an alternative and support well being and a sense of achievement particularly those with mental health issues, substance misuse and abuse or disabilities.
  • Reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.

We find creative projects provide a non-threatening platform for people to explore their potential and bring people into a learning environment they may not other- wise engage in. People from the above target groups can engage with creative workshops that are not reliant on good literacy and numeracy skills. However by nature of taking part these skills will be developed.
